Romanian specialists presented the results of a project supporting innovation in teaching foreign languages at the biggest educational fair in the world, held in London

The biggest event in the world dedicated to technology in education, BETT Show 2014, held from 22 to 25 January 2014, enjoyed the presence of over 700 exhibitors. Among them was the Romanian team who implemented the project „Lifelong training of the teaching staff for using modern IT resources in the efficient teaching of English and evaluation of the linguistic competences at European level” ID 62665. The aim was disseminating the project results also at international level, as this project registered a real success in Romania through a major impact on the education system.

The project is co-financed from the European Social Fund through the Sectorial Operational Program for Human Resources Development 2007-2013 „Invest in people!”, and was implemented by the Ministry of National Education in partnership with SIVECO Romania.

The project addresses the English teaching staff from the pre-university system and promotes the idea of innovation by introducing information and communication technology (ICT) in the classroom as well as modern pedagogical methods for knowledge teaching and evaluation.

The presence of the Romanian stand at this exhibition was appreciated by numerous visitors who attended it. They were captivated by the innovative methods regarding technology and techniques for English teaching in the classroom, promoted within the project. The Romanian delegation was happy to show them the benefits of using specialized software instruments in teaching English in the context of the global trend aiming at a more dynamic formal educational process. The international education experts among the visitors benefited from additional information such as brochures and project presentation movies.

During the project, the English teachers benefited from a training program dedicated to their initiation in using ICT tools in the classroom and to the innovative teaching methodologies in line with European standards in the field of teaching and evaluating English knowledge.

The solution provided within the project included an educational portal and digitized lessons both for the course dedicated to acquiring IT competences and for the specialized course, based on the new teaching methodologies. The educational portal made available IT applications for creating instruments with the purpose of evaluating the linguistic competences, as well as a forum which facilitated a collaborative information network among teachers.

By means of specialized software solutions, the teachers learn how to teach efficiently and then to evaluate the learners in a standardized manner, while supporting them to become autonomous and to acquire, in their turn, key competences necessary in the new knowledge-based society.

"The project POSDRU ID 62665 promoted integration and use of the modern technologies in teaching English. The teachers were challenged to rethink their teaching strategy by using a wide range of activities and resources related to the new technologies meant to create a collaborative and interactive framework in the classroom. The pupils become, in their turn, through independent learning activities, the authors of support materials that can be used for improving the linguistic and digital competences", declared the MoE General Inspector, Anca-Mariana Pegulescu, member of the Romanian delegation at London.

Once more, BETT Show 2014 confirmed supporting the idea of an international education community, where specialists from all over the world prove to be inspiring sources ones for the others on the road to a modern and efficient education.
