PRESS RELEASE

On April 25th, 2012, the Airports Association in Romania (AAR) has organized, in Bucharest, the latest regional conference within the strategic project „Professional training in the aerial transport: labor security and environment protection in using modern technologies” –POSDRU project ID 59569.

The project is implemented in partnership with SIVECO Romania.

Managers and representatives of Romanian airports, associate members of AAR, representatives of the Ministry of Transports, of the Romanian Civil Aeronautic Authority, of TAROM and specialists in the field of civil aviation have been invited to attend the regional conference with the topic „Demand for highly qualified employees on the airports”.

The discussions within the conference sessions have revealed aspects regarding the need for investing in improving human resources with the aim of increasing the competitiveness and efficiency of the air transport, adjusting the labor to the labor market competition, as well as aspects related to improving the labor conditions and the environment protection in the airports’ activities.

In the current context, airports are faced with more numerous and complex challenges related to the national and international competition, with threats and terrorist attacks  at international level, conditions imposing new requirements in ensuring the airports facilities and the human resources in airports that will contribute to increasing the airports’ safety and security.

In Romania, a traffic of over 10,000,000 passengers is estimated for 2013, traffic which is served by approximately 2,500 employees in the Romanian airports. The complexity of the airports’ operational activities, the ICAO and EU requirements, the specific national legislation determines the demand for the lifelong professional training of the human resources in airports, in conformity to the national and international standards in civil aviation.

The conference „Demand for highly qualified employees on the airports” has been organized within the project ”Professional training in the air transport: labor security and environment protection in using modern technologies; by means of which one is envisaging the professional training and certification of 600 employees from the airborne transport, mostly at from the operational (execution) level, out of which 300 are women employees, so that new IT skills and improved professional competences shall be developed that would meet the concrete needs of Romanian airports. Of real interest among the learners were the following courses: Handling Operator, Operator dispatcher monitoring systems and systems for control equipments and, last but not least, the course on Information Technology and communications (TIC).

Thus, up to now, 604 employees have been trained within 48 professional training sessions, out of which 292 were women employees, and subsequently up to the project’s completion another two training sessions shall be organized in May 2013. The conclusions and proposals resulting from all the activities carried out within the project are about to be integrated in the „The strategy for Human resources development in Romanian airports in 2013-2015”, which includes also the „Guide for Good Practices in professional training of the employees from aerial transport; the final results will be disseminated to the airports and associated members of the Airports Association in Romania, until the project’s completion, in June 2013.
