631 airports employees have followed professional development courses

Cluj-Napoca, 26th of June, 2013 – The airport employees professional development project implemented by the Romanian Airports Association (ARA) in partnership with SIVECO Romania has reached the end.

The results of the project have been presented at a press conference "Professional development in airports: work health & safety and environmental protection in the use of modern technologies", held in Cluj-Napoca.

631 participants (of which 301 employed women) have attended the 47 professional development sessions being held in locations of cities such as Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca/Tureni, Constanta, Oradea, Iasi, Bucharest, Baia Mare and Sibiu. The participants are employees of ARA member airports and associated members of the ARA (commercial institutions operating in air transport related sectors) and represent 24% of all airport employees.

The 9 professional development courses have covered basic airport activities which are globally renowned approved occupational standards "Operator handling", "Operator dispatcher monitoring systems and control equipment", "Ecology technician and environmental quality protection", "Technician in constructions and public works, "Manager of SSM management system", "Inspector of health & safety at work", "Human resources analyst", "Buildings and public transport cleaning service", "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ".

The project duration was of 30 months and the total approved value for the project was 5,987,031 RON.

The implementation period of the project started on the 3rd of Jan 2011, whereas the project was launched on 24th of Fed 2011 at the ARA in Cluj-Napoca.

Four sessions of meetings and debating of the Specialty Commission on integrated development of human resources for airports in Romania. Three regional conferences were also organized for meetings and debates on "requirements of highly skilled workforce at airports" in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Bucharest, with the participation of airport managers, civil aviation specialists, airport employees, unions and inviting the mass media which made these events public.

Within 8 seminars of information and debates held at the Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Baia Mare, Satu Mare, Bucharest, Constanta and Arad airports, have discussed issues related to creating a culture with regards to health & safety at work and environmental protection of airport activities.

In June 2013 the "Report on Human Resource Development Strategy of airports in Romania 2013-2015" was conducted and published with a number of 500 copies which were distributed in member airports and associated members of the Association of Airports in Romania.

"We are happy to conclude with such good results this unique project aimed at the professional development of employees in airports. Unique through the large number of participants, the diversity of courses offered, but also because employees at all levels has access to the program and not just managers. It is a first step that we have successfully made in order to have qualified employees to the standards of qualification and certification required in the area of airport activity to serve customers with professionalism", said David Ciceo, president of the at the conference for concluding the project.
