Education of the future imagined by Romanian pupils

During the 15th to the 18th of June, in Bran took place the 6th edition of the National Educational Software Competition –SIVECO Cup 2008.

Organized by SIVECO Romania, under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth and in partnership with PC Magazine and TVR, the SIVECO Cup competition aims to promote the developers of multimedia educational resources, young pupils from the preuniversitary system.

“Vision 2020”, the theme of this year’s competition, was extremely rewarding and encouraged the young educational software developers to imagine the near future. From educational portals to educational games, from architecture and quantum physics to impressive presentations of the innovative ways of learning with the support of computers, no subject was too difficult for the competitors.

The original approaches and the presentations given during the finals impressed the jury that had an extremely difficult task, trying to rank the projects.

The winning team comes from the “Grigore Moisil” IT High School from Iasi.

The „SIVECO Cup 2008” trophy went to Vlad Manea, Ionel-Andrei Albesteanu, Vlad-Andrei Tudose who were coordinated by their teachers Marinel Serban and Emanuela Cerchez. The team presented the project  „The KMP Algorithm”.

The quality of the presentation they gave, the way in which the project respected the competition’s theme, the original approach of the 2020 vision as well as the exceptional quality of the technical achievement, represented the strengths that made the difference in choosing the winners.

In the second day of the event, over 50 pupils and teachers from all over Romania, the members of the 11 teams that were qualified for the finals, along with the jury, organizers and special guests form Lithuania, discussed freely, the future of education –as it is seen by pupils and teachers.

The SIVECO Cup –the Romanian national competition for developing educational software has a unique character and really promotes your country’s efforts in supporting the introducing of IT in the educational domain. The projects presented in the finals would bring envy to any IT company. The experience that Romania achieved in this domain should be advertised more in the European countries and especially in those countries that adhered to the EU in the last 5 years. We are delighted that we had the chance to be present in this event and we will definitely use this experience. We need Romania’s knowledge in this domain”, declared Jolanta Daugirdiene the representative of the Ministry of Education from Lithuania. 

As each year, SIVECO Romania offers the winning team the chance to participate in a major educational software fair - Online Educa Berlin.

Because all the projects that were submitted for the competition were valuable, the teams were awarded with laptops offered by Intel and encyclopedias and dictionaries offered by Editura Litera International. A special award was offered to the youngest participants, from School no. 7 “Sfanta Maria”, Timisoara - Vlad Nicolae Vancea, Andrei Zait and Alina Ignea, coordinated by their teachers Adriana Roman and Vasile Roman. The team from Timisoara impressed with their eloquence and a very complex project.

Education represents a domain of maximum interest to all the countries that aspire to the creation of the knowledge society. We are decided to support and unconditionally promote the young Romanian pupils who, voluntarily get involved in the complex process of creating educational resources for future generations” declared Radu Jugureanu, AeL eContent Manager within SIVECO Romania.
