COMPASS lessons are fighting to reduce the gap between the employer's demand and the skills of young unemployed people. The project will be presented for the first time at CNIV / ICVL 2018

Every year, in autumn, the most important factors involved in education from Romania meet for two days at the National Conference on Virtual Learning (CNIV). It is an academic event with tradition that takes place simultaneously with the International Conference on Virtual Learning (ICVL), for participants from other countries.

Projects and scientific research inspired by current educational trends in eLearning are brought into the attention of teachers, students, institutions and companies involved in Romanian and international education.

This year, the XVI edition is taking place in the historical city of Alba Iulia. Here, the project developed by SIVECO Romania and three other European companies and co-financed by the European Commission will be presented to the public for the first time. The new project proposes a very practical approach to the much desired skills of digital literacy. COMPASS is the free and interactive learning platform with which young Europeans can assess and then develop the digital skills they need in the labor market in an economy where digitization is trending.

COMPASS reduces the gap between employers' requirements and the insufficient digital skills of young European unemployed people, to increase their employability and to help them develop a clear career structure.

"At Compass, we focus on clearly defining in the career path each user needs to follow, because we understand how daunting it is not to know what the next step is to achieve your goal. When a user creates their profile, after evaluating existing competencies, we recommend selecting the aspiring position within an industry so that the platform can identify the relevant digital competences and skills needed for that job. And then the user starts the courses to acquire them", says Dorothea CARAMAN, project coordinator for SIVECO Romania.

The platform is easy to use. Each lesson develops digital competences in five areas identified by the European Framework DigComp, including: knowledge of information and data, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, information security and problem solving. Lessons focus on real-world examples so that the user develops digital skills that can be used immediately.

The pilot project is available in English, French, Italian and Romanian.

About CNIV / ICVL 2018

This year, CNIV/ICVL are taking place between 26-27 October. The national conferences started in 2003, and, since 2006, they have been held together with their international replica. The CNIV / ICVL phenomenon brings into focus the Romanian and international education projects and scientific researches inspired by the educational trends in the field of eLearning. It is the Romanian academic event that offers all actors involved in education the opportunity to exchange experience, opportunities for future joint projects, being a real and inspiring community of virtual learning practice.
