Eratosthenes Experiment 2015 taking place on 19-20 March 2015

Monday, March 9, 2015

In 2014 a total of 350 schools in 37 countries participated in the Eratosthenes Experiment to measure the Earth’s circumference.  This experiment was initially performed by the Greek mathematician around 240 BC and enabled him to measure the circumference of the Earth.

Ellinogermaniki Agogi’s (EA) Research and Development Department is  again the organiser of the  Eratosthenes Experiment, which this year will take place over two days – on the 19th of  March and on the 20th of  March.  International collaborations with UNESCO, SPACE India and Math Forum @ Drexel are planned for the dissemination of the event around the world.

Schools are invited to celebrate science and education by calculating the circumference of the Earth using eLearning educational tools and simple instruments. Teachers and students will be able to use a specially created Inspiring Science Education learning environment for delivering a digital lesson.
