In the period of 6-7 April 2011, has taken place in Poiana Braşov, the conference for launching the project "Extending IT skills to the pre-university education - the efficient use of IT-based laboratories"

Within the launch conference the following persons have delivered a speech:

• Mrs. Nuşa LUPAN DUMITRIU - General Inspector, Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport
• Mr. Bogdan POPOVICIU - Manager, Department for Modernization of Patrimony, Investments and IT, the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport
• Mr. Gheorge DINU - Project Manager, General Manager of the Agency for Administration of the National IT Network for Education and Research (AARNIEC)
• Mr. Octavian RUSU - Educational Coordinator within the project, the Agency for Administration of the National IT Network for Education and Research (AARNIEC)
• Mr. Emil DRAGOMIRESCU - Coordinator operational-training within the project, SC SIVECO Romania SA.

The conference was attended by the members of the management team and the members of the implementation team within the project's beneficiary institution (AARNIEC), as well as within the partner institutions (SIVECO Romania SA and Europrojects), representatives of the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport, of the County School Inspectorates (especially their IT inspectors), and also beneficiaries or participants in the project, including the future trainers within the project.

During the morning, the conference has been dedicated to the general presentation of the project and its components, while the concrete benefits of the training programs provided within the project were also presented.

The need for implementing training programs that would have as result added value for the pupils were also brought to discussion, and the issue was raised of the need for applying in class, by the teaching staff, of the information received and of the knowledge acquired during the training.

At the same time, the representatives of Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport - namely Mrs. Nuşa LUPAN DUMITRIU and Mr. Bogdan POPOVICIU - have greeted the existence of such a project, as it is a reply to an actual need of the Romanian education system and have underlined that the project attempts to refresh and capitalize upon what has been achieved with considerable efforts as regards endowment of the IT laboratories in the pre-university system. Mr. Bogdan POPOVICIU, has declared that the existence of RoEduNet represents an important trump for the Romanian education system: the entire country is "populated" by a communication network for education which should be capitalized upon at the maximum. But, for reaching this ideal, it is necessary that the teaching staff and the ancillary staff should acquire new skills in the IT field.

Other topics touched upon have been subjects related to the ever changing role of teachers in the era of digital natives and to the manner in which the society found in the information technology era influences the exigencies as regards the lifelong training of teachers, but also on presenting a quality educational offer, in conformity to the concrete requirements of the world we live in.

Another topic discussed was the one related to the evolution of the concept of lifelong training.

The afternoon was dedicated to the presentation of the RoEduNet network - the network for education and research representing a communications infrastructure of national interest, defined and developed within the national education and research system. RoEduNet is administered by the Agency for Administration of the National IT Network for Education and Research (AARNIEC), which, in its turn, is member of the consortium GEANT, a network interconnecting all the networks for research and education in the countries members of European Union.

Also, a Q&A session took place, a real occasion of exchanges between the factors involved in the education process: from the decision making factors to the ones certifying and controlling the quality of the educational action and up to the proper teachers, the one who transmit knowledge but shape people, in the best and deepest meaning of the word.

The discussions during the Q&A session have focused around the project implementation and the concrete benefits brought by it, but did not limit to this, touching upon general topics related to the evolution of the Romanian education system, in general.

We remind you that the actual benefits brought by the projects aim both at the target group and the education system in general, through the development of advanced digital skills by the target group members, the usage of IT and capitalizing on the IT labs existing in the pre-university education system at maximal performance. Also, the training program developed, including the software applications, will remain at the disposal of the education system also after the project completion, thus improving the lifelong training system for the teaching staff and ancillary staff, with the idea of drafting an updated, quality educational offer.
