Let us learn how to defend from disasters!

A group of Romanian experts works on an educational system to simulate disaster scenarios.

Bucharest, October 27th, 2009 - The number of natural disasters has quadrupled in the last 20 years, from 120 to 500, while the number of victims has risen from 170 million to 254 million, according to most recent studies. Romania is present in a UN top, ranking among the states with a very high risk of producing natural disasters. There are suficient arguments in order that the reaction to disasters to be not only analyzed, but also prepared.

A Romanian group of civilian and military experts, specialists from informatics and communications in Romania, are working on the project Medscen - where SIVECO Romania is partner - to create an educational network using eLearning technologies to achieve a portal for building the training intervention, protection and reconstruction culture, in cases of natural disasters.

The educational content addressed to citizens, companies, educational institutions and formal or informal networks is based on interactive content tools of wiki and blog type, standardized digital content development tools of e-content type, role scenarios and simulations of previous disasters in order to highlight the correct methods of intervention, lessons and courses on the protection in crisis situations, action scenarios in case of disasters for the institutions empowered to intervene in crisis situations, multimedia interactive games for modeling behavior of individuals, means of interactive dissemination of knowledge in the areas of interactive protection and reconstruction of disaster affected areas.

Thus, by raising the awareness a normal behavior of the population in various crisis situations will be formed.

The project leader is "Carol I" National Defense University and partners are SIVECO Romania, the National Meteorology Administration, the Romanian Space Agency, MBL Computers, Expert Trade Company, AltFactor.
