A new record: 2.6 million visitors on http://portal.edu.ro, in just one week

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

According to traffic statistics, the SEI portal ranked 1st in the top of the Romanian websites, in both general and education categories, registering more than 2.6 million visitors and over 78 million posted web pages.

The portal initiated by the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation in collaboration with the specialists from SIVECO Romania, represents one of the most dynamic virtual communities.

http://portal.edu.ro is registering an intense traffic during June and July when is organized the Baccalaureate, The National Admission and Distribution of Secondary School Graduates in High Schools and the Teachers' Nomination upon Vacant Positions. The portal is accessed by pupils, parents, journalists, all in search of accurate and updated information, published in real time.

In June and July, the Romanian Internet users followed the same trend as in the last couple of years, and focused their attention on education, thus overcoming the "appetite" for online press, sports or recruiting announcements.

In the last week, the most accessed websites of the portal were:

http://admitere.edu.ro
http://bacalaureat.edu.ro
http://forum.edu.ro

On http://admitere.edu.ro, future high school pupils were able to check the final reports of the first phase of The National Admission and Distribution of Secondary School Graduates.

To ensure the correctness and transparency of the distribution process, the ADLIC 2009 project was coordinated by specialists from the Ministry of Education, starting with September 2009. After the publishing of the distribution's methodology, specialists from SIVECO Romania developed and implemented the ADLIC 2009 IT system.

The peak traffic was recorded on the 2nd and 3rd of July. The computerized distribution set off one day prior to the initially announced date. Therefore, starting with 5 o'clock on July the 2nd, candidates were able to find out in which high school they will learn in the next 4 years.

During the last days, in the spotlight was http://bacalaureat.edu.ro , where pupils were able to find out the partial and final results in the Baccalaureate exam. According to www.trafic.ro on the 5th of July 2009 there was a new record: 373,945 unique visitors in just one day.

This year, the possibility to access the Ministry's servers by those who were involved in the exams, was slightly diminished by unfair attempts to reproduce the results on other websites. The only authorized web sites to publish the official results were: http://bacalaureat.edu.ro/2009 and http://admitere.edu.ro/2009.

The unauthorized attempts have artificially generated additional traffic and increased the time needed to access the information by the public. The maximum number of simultaneous connections reached 35,000 with a total of over 105 million connections, which is why the Ministry of Education decided to increase the number of servers used for publishing the results in order to maintain a high quality of the services provided.
