A new traffic record broken on http://portal.edu.ro during the period of national exams: 93,858,775 hits

Starting with 2001, the IT system for the registration and computer-based distribution of the candidates in the national exams has correctly managed, under conditions of perfect security and transparency of over 3.5 billion options expressed by some 2.5 million candidates.

Bucharest, 20th of July 2011 - With over 2.6 million single users and over 4.7 million visits in the period of 4 - 17 July 2011, the portal http://portal.edu.ro, carried out by SIVECO Romania, ranks, according to traffic statistics, first in the general top of the most visited websites in Romania.

According to www.trafic.ro, on July 12th 2011 a new record of single visitors has been registered for http://portal.edu.ro, , with 828,935 visits in a single day, and over 24 million hits.

The most accessed websites of the portal have been http://admitere.edu.ro, http://bacalaureat.edu.ro and http://titularizare.edu.ro.

The site http://admitere.edu.ro, where the results of computer- based distribution have been published every year, occupies also this year the first position in the general ranking of Internet traffic in Romania.

The trend from previous years is thus maintained, when in the months of June - July the interest of Romanian internet fans for education exceeds the "hunger" for any other form of online press, no matter if we speak of sports information, of spotlight news or recruitment announcements , which usually hold absolute traffic records.

This traffic performance is possible thanks to a technical solution extremely solid and performing. The portal http://portal.edu.ro has been launched by the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport, in collaboration with the specialists of SIVECO Romania, hosting one of the most dynamic virtual communities in Romania.

This is the elf consecutive year, since the distribution of VIII grade graduates into high schools in performed in computer based manner, at national level.

The distribution is based the school record of the candidates and their options, according to a well determined algorithm, which ensures the process transparency and the correct distribution of each candidate.

The number of portal visitors has grown year on year, the users being already used to find on portal.edu.ro updated information and statistics referring to education.

Almost 2,500,000 candidates have been already distributed since the beginning of the computer based distribution up to now, who have expressed totally over 3.5 billion options.

The Educational Portal SEI has been conceived as a modality to involve all the members of the community in the education process, representing the most important data source available online, which offers to all those interested in the educational act pertinent, correct and updated information in real time.

"The IT system for registering the candidates in the computer - based system and the distribution procedure has operated correctly every year, since 2010. The admission exam calendar has been strictly complied with every year, all the phases respecting the dates in the calendar. No error whatsoever has been identified in any year in the computer - based distribution or any breach of security that would lead to compromising the candidates' data. Every year, there were hacker attacks on the system, especially on the components of publishing distribution results, but these have been successfully rejected every time", says Florin Anton, eLearning Manager within SIVECO Romania.

The IT system used for the distribution of candidates in high schools has been internationally recognized through granting of the 'Best Practice' award of the European Union ever since 2001.

As a premiere in 2011, the module of publishing information on the Internet has used the platform of cloud computing Microsoft Azure, which ensures continuous availability, practically unlimited computing capacity, redundancy and the security of information.

This module has been conceived especially to face a very large number of simultaneous hits, as well as to potential attacks meant to discontinue the services provided.
