40,000 students and 10,000 teachers from Europe will use common multilingual digital lessons

Computer-based education is essential in the 21st century. New technologies and trends that transform the global economy will influence the new generation of students, both personally and professionally.

SIVECO Romania is a partner in the Open Discovery Space European Program which runs from April 2012 to April 2015, in order to create an international community of schools.

The project starts from an existing content resource base and will expand with the help of teachers ‘communities whom will generate educational content. The project aims to improve teacher practice in all their activity fields and to combine IT skills with innovations in pedagogy, curriculum and school organization.

"Open Discovery Space is designed for the modernization of school education by involving teachers, students, parents and decision makers. The project has as objective creating a pan -European eLearning environment to promote more flexible and creative learning methods and to improve the educational content", says Monica Florea, Head of Research & Development Department, SIVECO Romania.

The educational content is accessible through project’s portal due to the use of several instruments from storage databases, including SIVECO’s database on a single standard also for being uploaded and viewed on the project’s portal.

For 2,000 schools from Europe, the project’s portal facilitates and accelerates the process of adoption eLearning resources in the educational system. The pilot schools were selected and integrated into project’s activities after they demonstrated an innovation, interest and experience based thinking in the use of eLearning solutions.

Open Discovery Space Portal brings together existing content resources being connected simultaneously to several regional, national or thematic coverage educational portals. The content addresses primary and secondary schools and also a variety of curriculum subjects: Science, Math, Arts, IT, Social Studies and foreign languages. Within the community created through the portal, Romanian teachers have the possibility to interact with other communities of teachers from Europe.

One of the workshops organized within the project, called "Change - Agent teachers”, teamed up 20 teachers from Romanian schools, followed by an evaluation. The role of these teachers is to be pioneers, delivering their colleagues from each school innovative methods that can be used in learning process, including the project’s portals: http://portal.opendiscoveryspace.eu and http://www.opendiscoveryspace.eu.
