Participants in SIVECO CUP crossed the border from user to educational software producer

Thursday, May 19, 2005

Bucharest, May 19th 2005 - Old timers or beginners, all those more than 500 participants in the third edition of SIVECO CUP have been expecting impatiently the verdict of the jury regarding the finalists for this year edition. In order to increase their chances of acceding in the final, a lot of pupils sent 2 or 3 applications. Teachers with experience in SIVECO CUP were literally assaulted by pupils’ requests for applications coordination. Ana Maria Lăculeanu Arişanu, a teacher from Râmnicu Vâlcea who participated in all previous editions is coordinating 4 teams: „It’s not exactly easy to cooridnate 4 different teams in 4 different areas. But I don’t regret a single thing about it, not even that I haven’t worked anything for my PhD thesis. I love working with children, and SIVECO CUP offered us other perspectives besides traditional computer science contests” says Mrs. Laculeanu.

There is a certain trend of establishing strong regional centers in the field of educarional software, as many of the applications come from several cities:  Timişoara, Iaşi, Vâlcea and Bucharest, cities very well represented in previous editions.

«  The contest grows stronger every year. Many of the previous editions participants are now technical or scientifical coordinators. They act as real trainers for the juniors, helping them improve their works. When you are dealing with at least 50 amazing applications, it’s painful to chose just 15 out of them. For the jury, they are all winners, as they have the courage to overcome not just one, but two barriers : communications/ they work in mixed teams and turning from consumer to educationalmaterials producers », says Radu Jugureanu, SIVECO Romania representative in the jury.
