SIVECO Romania contributes to developing the research project ESTABLISH
ESTABLISH - Environmental Sensing to Act for a Better Quality of Life: Smart Health aims at ensuring the independence of persons from vulnerable groups from medical staff specialized in recovery and rehabilitation
SIVECO Romania is partner in the project ESTABLISH - Environmental Sensing To Act for a Better quality of Life: Smart Health, a ITEA 3 research project (EUREKA strategic ICT cluster programme), which runs in Czech Republic, Finland, South Korea, Romania, Spain and Turkey, in the period of September 2016 - December 2019.
The project’s objective is ensuring the independence of persons from vulnerable groups (children, women, elderly) from the medical staff specialized in recovery and rehabilitation in the recovery and wellness clinics.
To this end, software applications will be developed that are about to collect and corroborate data collected by environmental sensors (indoor and outdoor) and behavior sensors, and to provide real time feedback based on them, offering the persons in specialized clinics the necessary help in their daily activities and the treatment options they have. Among the data coming from environmental sensors are those referring to the air quality, atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, and among the ones provided by biometric, physiological and behavior sensors are, for example, the heart and respiratory pace or the number of steps.
For carrying out the pilot project in Romania have been selected 9th grade pupils from the „Grigore Moisil” National College in Bucharest, who offered themselves as volunteers for developing some activities of prevention and staying fit, through daily jogging, activities spanning over half an hour, performed in the school’s courtyard or in the gym hall, outside the course hours.
The educational activities developed in view of carrying out the project objectives have included:
- Presenting the manner of using the smart bracelets and watches
- Presenting the manner of sensors’ operation in order to register the temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure
- Analysis of air quality using data provided by the National Air Quality Monitoring Network
- Presenting the effects of glasshouse gases and of dust particles on the human body
- Increasing the pupils responsibility regarding the importance of keeping healthy through physical activities
- The correct manner of performing these activities.
The presentation educational activities took place during the tutors’ classes or outside the regular classes.
The project’s next stage envisages setting up sensors for measuring the air quality in the school’s courtyard, in order to better catch their influence over the young human body, during the performance of physical activities.
The proposed activities are in progress, for collecting the pupils’ physiological data, as well as of the environment parameters, and subsequently they will be correlated upon pilot’s completion.
The activity developed within the project ESTABLISH has been presented at the 11th edition of the International Conference for technology, education and development (INTED 2017), in Valencia, Spain, 6 - 8 March 2017, as well as at the 9th annual edition of the International Conference for education and new learning technologies (EDULEARN17), in Barcelona, Spain, held during 3-5 July 2017.
