The project "Educational content for children with special educational needs" has received the highest award granted worldwide to an IT project - World Summit Award Winner

Saturday, 26th of October, over 10,000 km far away from home (where it was late night), in front of hundreds of guests from all over the world - the best in the field of IT&C - they spoke about Romania as the country where educational projects are created in terms of excellence. The project "Special schools Portal - CES – Interactive multimedia educational content for children with special educational needs", carried out by the Ministry of Education - Management Unit for Projects with External Funding, having SIVECO Romania as provider, received the highest award that can be granted globally to an IT project: World Summit Award Winner 2013, in the category eInclusion & Empowerment.

Paradoxically, 23 years ago in Romania, the existence of schools for children with special needs was a taboo. Today our country has the best eLearning program in the world for this kind of education!

Radu Jugureanu, Manager of AeL eContent department within SIVECO, said on the occasion of awarding the World Summit Award 2013 prizes, in Colombo, Sri Lanka: "The WSA awards are an epitome of performance, meaning that above this there is no other possible award that one might hope for. I am pleased to remind you that this year's award is the second we are receiving at this important competition. In 2005, we were also nominated WSA Winner for the educational content developed within the SEI (IT-based Educational System). We are proud to be the only company in the world which has ever won the WSA title twice, in two different categories (eLearning in 2005, eInclusion in 2013), with two different juries."

The recognition coming from the president of WSA jury, Professor Peter A. Bruck, Ph.D., gives us greater honor: "[Your Project] has won a valuable recognition from the United Nations Organization. Out of the over 460 applications we have received for evaluation, the jury formed of international experts has selected just 5 winners in each category, following a process of double selection, held in the most democratic manner possible. I am glad to inform you that you are among the best creative applications providers in the world."

World Summit Award is a global competition of IT projects, to which providers of tens of thousands of projects are participating in. WSA is part of the WSIS program (World Summit on the Information Society), held under the aegis of United Nations Organization and which defines the IT development policies on medium and long term.

Projects from 32 countries have been submitted at this year’s edition of World Summit Award, in the seven 7 categories of the competition (eBusiness & Commerce, eMedia, eInclusion & Empowerment, eEntertainment & Games, eLearning & Science, eHealth & Environment, eGovernment & Open Data); SIVECO Romania competed in the category eInclusion& Empowerment, where the other finalists were companies from the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia and Finland.

The project "Educational content for children with special educational needs", cofounded through the European Fund for Regional Development, has been carried out together with the Ministry of Education - Management Unit for Projects with External Funding, having SIVECO Romania as provider of the educational content. The project’s overall objective is the development and stimulation of the special educational system, in order to facilitate to children with special educational needs a better understanding of the environment and the society in which they are developing, as well as for ensuring their integration and the active and responsible participation in the social life.

We should mention that recently, this project was declared winner within the IT Europe competition too, in the category Vertical Market Government Solution.
